Maximizing Your Outdoor Dining Space: Creating a Cozy Dining Oasis
Do you dream of transforming your limited yard space into a haven for outdoor dining for relaxing and entertaining? The prospect might seem daunting, especially if your outdoor area is on the smaller side. However, with a bit of strategic planning, you can create an inviting outdoor dining experience that suits your lifestyle. Whether you have a large family, love hosting gatherings, or simply desire a tranquil spot for a cup of tea or a glass of wine, there are ways to make it happen.
When we moved to our home, it was important to me to create a backyard that felt like I was on vacation. This meant that I needed to include intimate spaces to enjoy a meal and a place to entertain friends and family. I also wanted lush gardens with flowers and vegetables as well as fruit trees. All of this needed to happen in a lot that is roughly 50’ by 80’. Many skeptics declared it impossible, but if there’s one skill I’ve honed, it’s making the most of a small space.
Our Kitchen Garden
The kitchen garden has become a sanctuary, brimming with fragrant herbs, such as lavender, rosemary, thyme, and oregano and vegetables used in making salads. The addition of the lovely fountain not only enhances the ambiance, but also helps drown out the surrounding traffic noise. The bistro set provides the perfect setting for a leisurely morning coffee, an afternoon tea with friends or a relaxing evening glass of wine.
Our Patio
For larger gatherings, our patio transforms effortlessly into an entertainment space. A cherished vintage patio set, once belonging to my parents, comfortably seats 4-6 guests. With the simple addition of a plywood top, the same space accommodates up to 10 guests.
Our Garden Shed
If casual dining is preferred, our garden shed offers a laid-back space for sipping iced tea, enjoying breakfast in the spring, or having a leisurely Sunday brunch.
Greenhouse Dining
For a more elegant touch, our greenhouse can be turned into a romantic retreat.
The vintage enamel table in the greenhouse is usually used for potting plants but can easily be used for an intimate dinner for special occasions.
For larger parties, the potting benches play a versatile role, layered with vintage linens for a buffet. The table is used for a drinks station. A galvanized tub next to the table holds cold drinks and ice. Guests can then take their plate to one of the many seating options throughout the garden.
Regardless of your yard’s size, or even if you are working with a balcony, creating a cozy outdoor dining space is within reach. With a blend of creativity and thoughtful design, you can turn any outdoor area into a retreat where you can unwind and enjoy the company of friends and family. So why wait? Embrace the challenge of maximizing your outdoor oasis and savor the moments spent in your personized dining haven.
